The Full Story

About

The Social Sense Project is a public awareness campaign dedicated to combating misinformation in digital space. With the rapid spread of unverified news, misleading content, and legal grey areas surrounding online speech, we recognize the urgent need for education and advocacy.

Through workshops, seminars, and resources, we equip individuals, especially young media use and older adults vulnerable to misinformation—with practical skills to identify fake news,  Our flagship seminar, Beyond the Truth, bridges the gap between media literacy and legal awareness, ensuring that participants leave with the tools needed to make responsible online choices.

Meet Noelle Robinson

Hi, I’m Noelle Robinson! a final-year Communications student who spends way too much time online (but let’s call it research). I’ve always been interested in how media shapes the way we see the world, and more importantly, how easily false information can get passed around like it’s the gospel.

The idea for The Social Sense Project came from a mix of things. I’ve seen how fast misinformation spreads on social media—sometimes it's just jokes and rumours, but other times it’s more serious and even dangerous. It really hit home during the pandemic, especially watching my parent, who works in healthcare, constantly having to correct myths and misinformation people would come in believing. That stuck with me.

Then there were the WhatsApp forwards—you know the ones—getting passed around in family groups, and I realized just how vulnerable both young people and older adults are to fake news. I wanted to create something that made people stop and think before they click “share.”

So The Social Sense Project was born. It’s a mix of media education, real talk, and digital common sense—something I think we could all use a little more of. Whether you're a student who’s always online or a grandparent just trying to keep up, this project is about helping everyone navigate the noise and find the truth.
